Ecosystem monitoring is an essential tool used to gauge the ecological integrity of a landscape. The process involves determining conditions and/or activities that adversely affect the landscape and identifying possible management actions to mitigate them. ACC scientists and Community Resource Assessors are involved in monitoring their environment in this way. This long term monitoring is a useful decision support function that allows for adaptation of action where the ecosystem health is threatened.ACC has engaged Community Resource Assessors in Magadi and Amboseli who monitor the environmental and indicator variable that also have an impact on their livelihoods.
