INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS FOR SUSTAINABLE SOCIETIES

International Partnerships for Sustainable Societies, a joint venture between Canada’s International Development Resource Centre (IDRC) and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), awarded ACC $2.6 million to initiate a new program: The Institutional Canopy of Conservation. This program, to be carried out between Aug 1, 2014 and July 31, 2021, focuses on designing community-based conservation programs in East Africa.

“This project aims to conserve East Africa’s rich biodiversity by strengthening local livelihoods though improving access rights to natural resources, income diversification, and green economic development, such as ecotourism. Researchers will identify the most effective designs for community-based conservation programs by studying the impact of a range of conservancy experiments on local livelihoods, attitudes, and natural resource practices.” — http://www.idrc.ca/
